On December 12, 1946, Donald James Gummer was born in Louisville, Kentucky. With his mother Dorothy Ann, father William, and brothers Mark, William, Richard, Jack, and Steven, he grew up in Indiana. Don attended Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis and attended the Herron School of Art from 1964 to 1966.
