Beginning of life

William Ray Norwood Jr. was born in McComb, Mississippi. Son of Willie Norwood and Sonja Bates-Norwood. Her older sister Brandy Norwood is a singer and actress American; he is the second cousin of Snoop Dogg. In his earlier days, he moved with his parents from McComb, Mississippi to Carson, California, and in 1989 began appearing in television commercials for different companies.

In 1989, at the age of eight, he began auditioning for Norwood and appearing in television commercials. This period in Norwood’s life would shape his career by giving him a role in the UPN, Moesha comes Dorian “D-Money.” Earlier in his career, Ray J was known for wearing a headband.

1997-2006: Everything You Want

He signed with Elektra Records in 1995 and began recording his first album, Everything You Want the same year. “Let It Go” appeared on the soundtrack for Set It Off. The album reached number # 25 on the Billboard 200 in the United States and number # 11 in New Zealand. The second single was achieved by the number # 54 in the stop Hot R&B / Hip-Hop Songs of Billboard. In 1997 he produced, joining the music for several commercials and some of the demos for his second album.

After a two-year break, Norwood returned to recording studios, adding the finishing touches to his third Radiation studio album with the help of producers such as Rodney Jerkins, Timbaland, R. Kelly, and Rob Egerton. The album was eventually released on September 27, 2005, in North America after several delays, debuting at #48 on the Billboard 200, selling 18,321 copies in its first week. The ” One Wish ” was a top 20 hit in the US, UK, Ireland and New Zealand. Radiation has sold more than 400,000 copies in the country.

In 2005, Norwood joined the cast of the series UPN, One on One, where he played D-Mack’s character at the end of the season. In both shows, Ray’s character was related to Brandy’s (cousin/half-brother in Moesha, and brother in One on One ).
